RSC Seeing Stars is a flimsy!

Yesterday evening I sewed the remaining Star Blocks together and arranged them into an order I liked.
Today I went to my  Quilters Area Day and sewed my 16 RSC blocks into a flimsy which I’m very happy with.
Tomorrow I’ll find (I hope) a suitable backing fabric from my stash and baste the quilt. Once I’m at this stage  I’m always anxious to get on with the quilting.
I had a lot of compliments today  from other Quilters which was nice. But I love it: bright, cheery and I think, just the colours and fabrics for  a baby. Lots of I Spy when baby is older.

I have deliberately used the word “Flimsy” following Cathy’s blogpost yesterday on her  Sane Crazy Crumby quilting blog. Apparently some people aren’t happy with the term “Flimsy” and prefer “Quilt top” . I’m happy either way so today I’ve chosen to describe my work as a Flimsy!

Which side of the fence are you? Flimsy or Quilt top?

  1. I’m in love with your rainbow starry flimsy! Yes,I like that word. It describes to a tee, that the top is not quilted yet! I don’t think of it as a negative word, just a cute descriptive one.

  2. I didn't know what it was when I first heard it. The meaning of words change and are different in different hobbies. I'm ok either way.

  3. Oh, yes...a bright and cheery flimsy and perfect for a baby! What size squares did you use? Looks like 2.5 for a 10 inch finished block? The white for the stars really makes them sparkle.

  4. I'm happy with flimsy. I do love this pattern. I made plenty of these for johns female friends when they turned 21. He was the star in their quilt.

  7. Your Stars look fabulous! As for my preference of flimsy or quilt top, I'm good either way -- just get those quilts to the finish line! Lol!

  8. Perfect for a baby!! I left a comment on Cathy's post the other day, I'm not worried either way although I usually just refer to mine as a top.

  9. Lovely rainbow of seeing stars. I prefer to call a top a top, but I suppose it's a flimsy top too because it hasn't been quilted. I'm too much of a stickler for grammar to refer to "a flimsy" though! Everyone can call it what they will; we all understand what's meant.

  10. What a cute little quilt! I'm not picky in either referring to it is a flimsy or unfinished top. I think most people understand what it is..... just like quilting there really is no right or wrong I think!

  11. Very bright and fun! Congrats on getting it to the finished flimsy stage. I tend to use flimsy when I write, but quilt top works for me too.
